Eat your way to good health with nature's superfoods

Eat your way to good health with nature's superfoods
------------------------------------------------------
There has been a lot of information in the news recently
about a very powerful group of foods capable of helping to
prevent and fight illnesses such as cancer and heart
disease, as well as slow aging.

These are known as superfoods. Although the nutritional
quality of food is not what it was 100 years ago these are
still foods that should form an important part of our diet
With the right nutrition you will have more energy, feel
and
look better. Cutting out processed foods that often contain
high levels of salt, and replacing them with natural
unprocessed foods will really have a positive effect on your
health and wellbeing.
Broccoli is powerful in fighting against cancer.

It
contains
isothiocyanates which are chemicals that stimulate the
body's production of it's own cancer fighting chemicals.
Broccoli has more vitamin C than an orange and more calcium
than a glass of milk.
Try and have a serving of broccoli every day with your
main
meal. One of my favourite recipes is for broccoli and
cauliflower soup.

Pumpkin contains alpha carotene and beta carotene. These
are
antioxidants which can be converted to vitamin A in the body
and help protect against disease.
Pumpkin also helps to keep the skin youthful. Pumpkin is
delicious when combined with sweet potato in a mash, and
drizzled with virgin olive oil.

Soya is a plant protein rich in minerals and vitamins as
well as omega 3 fatty acids and phytonutrients. It's
powerful properties help fight against heart disease and
cancers including breast cancer.
Soya contains plant oestrogens which are thought to help
balance hormone levels. It's a much safer alternative to
help alleviating menopausal symptoms than HRT.

Soya can be taken as tofu, soya milk, or miso (fermented
soya beans)
Salmon contains omega 3 which is a very important fatty
acid. The body needs omega 3 in order to build cell
membranes.
Adding salmon or other oily fish to your diet once or
twice
a week helps to reduce the risk of heart attacks or a
stroke.
Omega3 also helps to keep joints supple and protects against
arthritis.

Oranges contain high levels of vitamin C as well as
phytochemicals and flavonoids. These have anti-inflamatory
properties.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent free
radical damage to cells thereby reducing the risk of cancer.
Blueberries are thought to have the most powerful
antioxidant activity of any other fruit or vegetable.

A large
handful
of blueberries provides as many antioxidants
as five servings of carrots, apples, broccoli or squash.
Eating these foods on a regular basis as well as drinking
plenty of water and exercising will help you to keep healthy
and free from minor infections and diseases. Good diet also
shows in the skin and hair.
Due to modern farming methods though the nutritional quality of
the
soil is less than it was 100 years ago.

As a result
vegetables and fruits don't contain the same amount of
nutrients as they once did.
Although eating these superfoods will benefit you greatly,
supplementing your diet with a high quality nutritional
supplement will ensure that your body gets the maximum
nutrition that it needs.
